Theme Commission: Nya18

Pokemon themed chibi commission for Nya18 on FA.

Unfortunately my theme commissions didn't really take off.  This was the only slot that filled so I just made them regular commissions.  If people want to put a theme to them they can.  I'm still waiting for a Super Sentai or Kamen Rider themed commission.  I want at least one.

Anyways, the commissioner wanted their character drawn as a Persian.  The wings and the fluffy tail are characteristic of this person's character though.  This was cute and fun to work on.  I do like "chibi" art a lot.  It's just adorable.

Finished Drawings for Today

In between teaching myself random songs from Super Sentai series and Kamen Rider OOO on violin, here's two finished drawings from today. First up a Swoobat/Kokoromori, a pokemon from the Black/White series. The sketch was done over spring break. I just finally got to coloring it recently and finishing it today though. The way this creature is designed...it originally looks a bit like a puffball. And while it's cute, I wanted to make a more "realistic" form for it (while still keeping it cute of course). I don't draw bats a lot so drawing it was a bit fun. The wings can be a bit annoying to draw though.

Second picture is a commission for GhostBlackBurn on FurAffinity.net of he and his girlfriend's fursonas and little lion/wolf pups. The whole overweight character thing can be cute when it's not overdone, and this was pretty cute to draw. My favorite part of it has to be Ghost's (the lion) expression. That was the best part to draw.

I might finish up a 3rd image, a chibi commission for Grizzlybane also on FurAffinity. And if that one isn't done tonight, it'll definitely be done tomorrow.

Draw-a-day: Days 3 and 4

My "draw a day" challenge is kinda falling apart. Mostly on my part due to disinterest in drawing anything. Due to emotional instability...but anyways...

There should be a lot more drawings than this but still...First one is of a character I haven't drawn in a long time named Avariya. It's her smaller form which looks a bit like a Corgi/Husky mix. She's got a larger form too in which her wings are attached to her body and she looks like a very large (giant) Malamute mix. I gave her quite a bit of design/marking touch ups from the last time I drew her. Sadly I don't have that much of my old art of her...

Second is of the illusion pokemon Zorua. Not the best thing I've ever drawn...not even close. But I need to get used to not being such a perfectionist which is actually very difficult for me. Aside from the glowing eyes, I don't like this one at all.

2 WIP's

1) A bit more Plants vs. Zombies fan art. A Repeater and Torchwood against a Road Cone Zombie. Repeater plus Torchwood is my favorite combination (aside from Gatling Pea plus Torchwood) and Road Cone Zombie...well...Road Cones protect his head!

There's very little "epic" fan art for this game so I thought I'd try my hand at it. At the least this gives me some good practice with lighting and perspective, two things I don't bother with nearly enough. This'll also be good texture practice. I've gotten the texture of grass and bark nearly down. Leaves, smooth textures, clothing, and fire are textures that definitely need some work.

I just hope all my light sources stay clear and done end up becoming muddled together.

2) A gijinka/humanoid version of my Girafarig pokesona (she doesn't have a name just yet). Just drew this one up recently as practice for "humans" (though she's not completely human...'tis just my little loop-hole for drawing people).

Definitely a drastically different color scheme here. I'm aiming for a sunset or sunrise sort of look.

Despite my discomfort with drawing people, I'm rather proud of how her pose turned out.

Hopefully I can finish both of these pictures within the week. I'll work on them one at a time though. I just kept going back and forth between the two because I really wanted to get some color down on both sketches.

V for Victory

Victini...not one of my favorite pokemon. In fact, I really don't like it's design too much. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't draw it again though. Because drawn outside of Ken Sugimori style, Victini's a bit bearable. I'll admit it's a cute pokemon though.

I still wanna get him in the game though...darned Nintendo wi-fi...

Commission- Jolteon Sketches

Sketch sheet commission for thedeedeedee on FA.

I imagine Jolteon to be some sort of fox/jackrabbit hybrid. The stature and facial structure of a fox. The ears and partially the body type of a hare. The tail is some mix of fox and hare. Possibly with some quills (aesthetically the way the fur stands on it's tail seems like they might be quills but I doubt it).

ACEOs

Or the long title, Art Card Exchange Originals.

ACEO's are 2.5x3.5 trading cards usually made using traditional media.

The ones of Kyndir (the gryphon like creature) and Wasemon (the blue horse like thing) are trades. Leoian (the tiger) and Violetta (the purple haired girl) were commissions. The rest were just drawn for fun.

Commission- Absol Portrait

This gave me a good deal of trouble but I am pretty happy with how most of it turned out. The horn and the nose could stand to be a bit better. I might give another go at drawing Absol in my free time (that is if I want to draw it again) and might try to make the horn more stylized like deer antler or something like that.

Commission for Eclipsis on DA.

Group of WIPs

Just a few pictures I've had sitting on my computer for a while that I'm working on:

1) Vulpix Portrait

I see Vulpix either based on a Fennec Fox or a small Red Fox. This one's Fennec based and I wanted to play around with it's markings a bit so I gave it a nice face mask. But I left the colors the same so it will be recognizable as Vulpix.

2) D-Techno

This one's been sitting on my laptop for a while. I want to finish it up soon because I'm rather happy with how it's turning out. D-Techno's my blue mutt character (probably a husky mix) that I created off the song D-TechnoLife by UVERworld. Usually I draw her looking more canine, but I wanted to give her a more human-ish look here. That water gave me the most trouble. Sky gave me the second most amount of trouble. Just because the fur isn't done yet doesn't mean I had too much trouble with it...I just take forever to color fur.

3) Baby Vulpix

I haven't worked on this one in a long time either. I think I know what I want to do with the background and how I'm going to do the eyes. I gave this one a more Red Fox look as opposed to the portrait. I really like how the fur's coming along, but I am still a little stuck with what to do with the rest of it.

4) Buck Portrait

Nowhere near done with this one. Buck was definitely my favorite character in Ice Age 3 and I just had to attempt a more realistic take on him.

Pokemon Portrait Book for Anime Central 2010

This is the first of hopefully many more pokemon portraits I want to create for Acen next year. I'm well aware that books don't sell well at conventions, but hopefully I can sell them outside of Acen as well. Even though I'll be sharing the images online, the versions online will have watermarks. Also I plan on putting fun little stories along with each picture in the book, not to mention a sort of "foreword" and a tutorial to how I paint fur in photoshop. So not everything in the book will be online.

So far I've got this Vulpix sketched up as well as Spheal and a partially sketched Piplup. Other pokemon I plan on including are:

Houndoom (Red morph)
Houndoom (normal)
Mightyena (Brown morph)
Mightyena (normal)
Pidgeot
Staraptor
Arcanine
Meowth
Persian

Other possibilities are:

Growlithe
Rattata
Glameow
Purugly
Suicune
Absol

My problem with using Suicune would be that its a legendary pokemon and due to my idea of what I want to do with this book, I don't think using a legendary pokemon would work. The others I may use. I would prefer to use pokemon that have natural colors because it will be easier to find references to color those. Arcanine may be a canine, but it's easy to find a reference for its coat colors. A tiger will definitely be used. Spheal, Piplup, and others with unnatural colors will be the tougher ones to color.

It's a lot to try to pull off by next May, but I think I can do it...granted I can just sit down and work really hard.

I needed to add in my plan for a background here. So I looked at a few pictures. Most of them had fox kits playing or laying in tall grasses. So that's what I'm choosing to use here. Initially I was going to add in a fox/wolf den back there so it doesn't look like she wandered too far away from home since she's a baby.

I planned on having this finished in time for Anime Central so I could have something else to sell there. Unfortunately, due to the picture's complexity, I don't think that's a possibility. So I'll just continue working on this slowly. I do want to add in her eyes soon. It just looks weird without them. But I do love how this is coming along.

Realistic Vulpix for the Newbie

So I just joined up here 'cause I've lurked around and I like the site layout so I decided to join it. This'll be my site for all my better works as well as stuff I'm working on for animation in terms of storyboards and character designs. So for my first post is the current thing I'm painting: a realistic baby Vulpix.

I may be 19 but I still love pokemon for the sheer fact that they are extremely fun to draw realistically. Vulpix is one of the easier ones to render, but I hope to try my hand at some of the more difficult ones. I had a lot of references for this 'cause I haven't drawn a realistic fox before. But it was a little difficult at first to try to figure out how to render the fur. I used photos as well as 2 tutorials to try it out and I'm really happy with how it's looking so far. For people familiar with pokemon and particularly the pokemon Vulpix, you may (or not) be wondering about why she doesn't have 6 tails. Well I was reading some of the game descriptions of this pokemon and they say that baby Vulpix are born with only one purely white tail and as it grows it splits into 6. So I decided to play off of that and draw a Vulpix with a mostly white tail that's partially split in two.
