Sketches n' WIP's

As we can tell...I have fun drawing literal Tatoba.  And each time I draw him he seems to get toonier.  But that's a good thing I think.  He looks really good toony.

The top WIP started out as a bit of vent art.  I was feeling (and still feel to a degree) very stressed with the change from being in college to being thrust into the real world.  So I drew my optimistic fursona (L. Tatoba) consoling Sombra.  There was something I liked about the look of the shaded characters in this flat looking universe so I saved a WIP that looked like this.  I've painted up the background a little more since then but it still needs to some more work.

Second is a plan for a future fursuit.  I knew I wanted to make a fursuit based on my literal Ratoratah design.  But I didn't want to make a male Ratoratah.  Yeah, making the mane might be fun but I wanted to make a more female version of the design for me.  So I cut the mane back into a mohawk.  Unlike most of the anthropomorphic animals that I draw, I decided I didn't want to add any body padding to this.  So she has plantigrade legs instead of digitigrade ones.  And I want to make the feet fairly small since I want the suit to be pretty form fitting.  And yes, I want that tail to be dragging on the floor like that.

I'll make a better, turn around reference for her when I get closer to starting this project.  I've got about 2 or 3 ahead of this one.  She's kinda on the back burner for other costumes (depending on what I want for the conventions I'm going to).

Akio WIP- Sketch

Progress of a request for DaggerLeonelli/Majime of her Shiba Inu character, Akio. I just wanted to draw him in both humanoid form and Shiba Inu form. 'Cause his humanoid form is very pretty. That and I don't draw people nearly enough.

Wanna see how much of this I can get done today. This is almost gonna be double the work of any of my last few pictures 'cause this is separated out into the dog Akio layers and the human Akio layers. Each part is almost gonna be like it's own separate entity in a way. I should be able to at the least get through the lines for both parts. Lines and shading always take me the longest so I'll see how much time this takes up before I get tired.

"No Escape" Faux DVD cover (sketch)

Done for TAS.

Well it's not quite done yet. I'll be working on this most of the day today and am gonna try to do this some justice. I'd hope that if a parent ever saw something like this in a store they wouldn't bypass the whole "dying dog caught in a hellhound's grip" thing. Cartoons are too often though of as just things for kids. That's such a crock. I would never want some little kids watching this short film (that maybe I'll finish or maybe I won't...maybe I might just make a longer story out of it). So the cover is just showing what the film will show anyways. I'm not gonna hide anything about the violence that's in it.

The larger dog here is Yesebel the hellhound. The poor little dog she's got caught in her jaws is Sombra.

One fine day was a woof and a purr...

Oh, CatDog...

One of the weirdest and possibly worst shows I've ever seen. But for some reason I loved it when I was little.

The characters themselves are fun to draw and I might draw them again.

Sketch- "Magic of the Smile"

Start of one picture in a 4 part series of pics based on a song called "Magic" by Rina Aiuchi. The song is in Japanese but there's four lines in the song that are completely in English (they're in the background and hard to understand but probably the more potent lines in the song in my opinion):

Magic of the Smile
Magic of the Word
Magic of the Love
Magic of the Music

"Smile" is most obviously the easiest thing to portray. I think "word" is going to be the hardest element to portray without words. I think "music" is going to be the most fun to draw. That's also my favorite part of the song.

Skech- Fanboy

Fell in love with the series Fanboy and Chum Chum and had to draw this guy. At first I didn't think I'd like the show. It seems just...weird and silly but I watched it and really thought it was hilarious. It's got a fun chaotic style that I just love.

Will eventually paint this and try to give it that 3D style but without use of 3D modeling or rendering.

Didn't really do the series much justice here. I just couldn't capture the chaotic nature just yet but in future fan works hopefully I can do the show some justice.

Kyuubimon Cosplay Plot- Head Sketches

Some quick sketches I did during class today. Didn't have a fox ref in front of me but I did enough to just plot out how I want my next cosplay to come out.

As soon as I finish up my costumes of Sombra and Excalibur, this is going to be one of my next projects (the other being a Corded Poodle suit).

Kyuubimon has to be one of my favorite digimon. And one of the other reasons why I wanted to start making fursuits. She's gorgeous and I've never seen a costume of her. Renamon I've seen many costumes of. But Kyuubimon would prove to be a challenge indeed.

I'm gonna go for a more realistic looking suit with this one. Want to get taxidermy eyes, nose, and jaw. Wouldn't be able to see out those eyes of course but I'd put mesh in the tear ducts to see out of. Would use both faux fur and hair extensions for her mane. Might put my own spin on it and give her a more "tribal" look with braids and beading. Only a little bit.

That's what I've got for now. Other than it would be a full fursuit instead of a partial one. The 9 tails would prove to be difficult as well...that I'm sure of.

Sketch- Kouto Kooni

Owed art/gift for StranillaFennebi on Fur Affinity. I definitely fell in love with this character's design when I saw it and just had to draw it. Evil rabbit...of course I couldn't pass that up! I'll be coloring this soon. I owed her some art from when she bought me a Deviantart subscription a while back. I was going to start over on this other picture, but I couldn't pass up drawing this guy and hopefully this works too.

Sketch- Latin Vixen

This girl has to be one of the main reasons why I really wanted to try fursuit making. The costumes she makes are absolutely gorgeous, sleek, smooth, and brilliant. Doesn't matter if it's hyper-cartoony or extremely realistic. Her drawing style is really beautiful as well.

Had to draw her a little something. This is her fox character...LatinVixen. I'm not sure if she has another name. I'll eventually show this to her when I color this up. I'll probably center this sketch better in photoshop.

Pokemon Portrait Book for Anime Central 2010

This is the first of hopefully many more pokemon portraits I want to create for Acen next year. I'm well aware that books don't sell well at conventions, but hopefully I can sell them outside of Acen as well. Even though I'll be sharing the images online, the versions online will have watermarks. Also I plan on putting fun little stories along with each picture in the book, not to mention a sort of "foreword" and a tutorial to how I paint fur in photoshop. So not everything in the book will be online.

So far I've got this Vulpix sketched up as well as Spheal and a partially sketched Piplup. Other pokemon I plan on including are:

Houndoom (Red morph)
Houndoom (normal)
Mightyena (Brown morph)
Mightyena (normal)
Pidgeot
Staraptor
Arcanine
Meowth
Persian

Other possibilities are:

Growlithe
Rattata
Glameow
Purugly
Suicune
Absol

My problem with using Suicune would be that its a legendary pokemon and due to my idea of what I want to do with this book, I don't think using a legendary pokemon would work. The others I may use. I would prefer to use pokemon that have natural colors because it will be easier to find references to color those. Arcanine may be a canine, but it's easy to find a reference for its coat colors. A tiger will definitely be used. Spheal, Piplup, and others with unnatural colors will be the tougher ones to color.

It's a lot to try to pull off by next May, but I think I can do it...granted I can just sit down and work really hard.
